Nonlinear Aeroballistics
Until this point, we have concerned ourselves with linear behavior of the aerodynamic
coefcients only. This is very convenient for direct re projectiles and projectiles that y
with very little yaw. It had the benet of allowing us to make a black or white decision with
regard to projectile stability as well—the projectile was either stable or not. In real systems,
several of the coefcients are only linear over a small range of angles of attack. This can be
either helpful or hurtful to a particular design.
