How OpenOffice.org Calc Treats Your Input
OpenOffice.org Calc uses an elaborate set of rules to determine how to classify and display the information you store inside a worksheet. Most of those rules are fairly straightforward, and as long as you properly set the operating system’s local settings for date and money formatting, whatever you type or paste ought to be interpreted in the right way.
