It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Left-Side Substring (LEFT)
Syntax: LEFT(Text; n)
The LEFT function returns the first character from the string text, or a specified number of n characters starting from the left. For example:
=LEFT("OpenOffice.org")
returns O, and
=LEFT("OpenOffice.org"; 4)
returns Open.
