In addition to the functionality we've described so far, the standard also defines a way for a token owner to delegate responsibility for transferring all or some of their balance. The owner isn't transferring the tokens themselves, but giving permission for another account to transfer on their behalf. This allows exchange-brokered token transfers, and, more generally, for smart contracts to accept tokens in exchange for a service.
We will describe the parts of the standard that provide the functionality, and then discuss the flow of operations.
