Choosing Applications

A functional system requires more than an operating system. Up to this point, you have built and configured what amounts to a blank canvas. The canvas has a size, shape, and tone that are defined by the components and operating system you chose for your system. If you were to show your system off to your friends, their reaction might be a little bland, depending on their understanding of the nuances of hardware, operating system, and configuration.
