Preparing for Updates
Parts age at different rates, some have extremely long lifespans. When you build your own PC, you have the chance to reuse these parts in updated systems. Other parts don’t have a long life or you find that they require updates long before they’re toast due to other issues. For example, one of my systems still has an 80486 processor in it. I use it to track my movies and play really old games, but its useful life was over a long time ago. The fact that the system even boots is amazing. On the other hand, one of my systems still has a serial port card in it from a long time ago. As long as the serial port continues to fit in a system that I can use, I’ll continue using it as an extra port. The point is, some parts do last ...
