8 DEFINING THE SOLUTION

INTRODUCTION

Business analysts apply gap analysis to consider how an organisation might move from a current business situation to a desired future state. The definition of the desired state may be expressed in many different ways, depending upon the organisational context and the specific problem or opportunity to be addressed. For example, any combination of the following may be available:

• a TOM (Chapter 3);
• a BAM (Chapter 6);
• a set of ‘to be’ business processes (Chapter 7).
