So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Summary
This chapter covered the difference between the WAN services Frame Relay, DSL, HDLC, and PPP. Although I talked in depth only about HDLC and PPP, the most prevalent WAN technologies for the Cisco ICND1 exam (CCENT) objectives, don't skip the small but all-so-important section on Frame Relay!
You must understand High-Level Data-Link Control (HDLC) and how to verify with the show interface command that HDLC is enabled. This chapter provided this important HDLC information to you as well as how the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) should be used if you need more features than HDLC or you are using two different brands of routers. This is because HDLC is proprietary and won't work between two different vendor routers.
