Network Virtualization

Abstract

Multiple tenants (customers) are hosted in some of the large cloud data center environments. Not only are these tenants provided dedicated virtual machines, they can now also be provided a dedicated virtual network with many of the same features as a physically isolated network. In this chapter, we describe multitenant cloud data centers and how they can take advantage of virtualized networks. We describe traditional methods of tunneling data through carrier networks and challenges that they present in virtualized data center networks.
