So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Generating source code at build time using Python
The code for this recipe is available at https://github.com/dev-cafe/cmake-cookbook/tree/v1.0/chapter-06/recipe-03, including a C++ example. The recipe is valid with CMake version 3.5 (and higher), and has been tested on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Being able to generate source code at build time is a powerful feature in the toolbox of the pragmatic developer who wishes to generate possibly lengthy and repetitive code based on some rules, while at the same time avoiding tracking the generated code explicitly in the source code repository.
