This chapter provides background information on the Internet Printing Protocol, the network printing protocol from the Internet Engineering Task Force. IPP forms the basis of the Common UNIX Printing System.
The IPP working group was created in 1997 by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and Printer Working Group (PWG) to develop a standard network printing protocol that addressed the needs of the Internet community and current technologies.
