In this chapter, we discuss two specialized types of learning: namely, unsuper-

vised learning and reinforcement learning.

Unsupervised learning concerns trying to find hidden structure in data.

Clustering, which involves the discovery of categories from data, is a basic

form of unsupervised learning, and one in which we have achieved a good deal

of success. We discuss clustering first.
