(Abran et al. 1999) and 2.1 (Abran et al. 2002). For this study, we focus on the
following FSM methods:
◾ IFPUG FPA 4.0 and 4.1 (IFPUG Manual 1994; IFPUG Manual 1999)
◾ Mark II FPA 1.3.1 (ISO 2002c)
◾ FFP 1.0, COSMIC FFP 2.0 and 2.1 (Abran et al. 1999, 2002; St.-Pierre et
al. 1997)
We will see that these methods share a core view of the items that determine
functional size. Figure2.2 presents a view of the evolution of these FSM methods.

Abran and Robillard (1994) analyzed the measurement process of IFPUG FPA.
In their view, FPA constructs the function point measure in a hierarchical process
