Creating Soul in Education

My wife taught special education for 38 years. She worked with Down Syndrome kids, neurologically impaired kids, learning-disabled kids, and emotionally disturbed kids. I have never seen anyone bring so much care and compassion to the classroom as she did. It wasn’t easy. She worked hard. Teaching is not a 9 to 5, nine-month job with lots of vacations. She typically arrived at school at 6:30 in the morning, and brought work home at night. It was not unusual for her to spend several weeks in the summer getting ready for class. She brought imagination and creativity to her work every day. She demanded a great deal from her students, but they never doubted her love. She retired in 2008, still fresh and full of love. ...
