Mňačko with Eva Okáliyová, who he married in Vienna, lived satisfied over twenty years
in Austria. (Later, her mother, who was the wife of the well-known poet Ivan Krasko, joined
them.) They returned to Czechoslovakia after the change of he political regime following
17 November 1989, when they sold their house in Grosshöflein and came home. Even though
they had built their home in Austria, they felt called to Slovakia.
Today neither Ladislav Mňačko, nor his wife are among the living. As I became his court
historian, the only one, who studies his life and work, I can say with full worth: “Austria,
Austrians, great thank you for helping Ladislav Mňačko and his family, and providing them
