11.1 Introduction
By the recent developments in Internet of things (IoT), the concept of smart cities and smart grids has become more widespread. IoT enables various devices to interact with each other and share their information. Processing this data in computing units, it is possible to add a portion of smart to the system. Electric vehicles (EVs) are emerging vehicles that are absorbing more and more consumers all over the world. Since EVs, which are supplied by electrical energy, can have great impact on the power system, it must be considered carefully in smart grids. EVs can exchange a great amount of information between themselves via IoT. Due to myriad number of EVs in cities, this issue must be considered seriously in smart cities. In this chapter, emphasizing the importance of EVs in smart cities, we provide information about various types of EVs based on their level of autonomous. Then, IoT technology and its relation with EVs will be explained. Since writing about IoT and connected vehicles without considering cyberattacks seems to be meaningless, we bring a great discussion to explain various types of cyberattacks that EVs face with. Finally, we focus on high penetration of EVs in cities and their impact on the power system. In this regard, we explain the influences on electricity demand and their role in ...
