I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Handling your nerves
When I’m teaching a group about presentation skills, the ‘fear’ which is most often voiced is that they will be nervous. I could just say ‘it’s part of the territory, get on with it’, but there are things we can do to help manage our nerves. Before I begin that process though, it’s time for a confession. ‘Presenting’ is pretty much what I’ve done for a living most of my working life. I still get nervous. I long ago gave up on expecting the feeling to disappear completely. Instead I now accept it and do all I can to manage it.
So, the strategies I’ve outlined here won’t make your nervousness go away, but, over time, will help you stay in control of it.
