Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to examine the latest developments in distributed processing technology and how they affect contemporary computer systems. The chapter will give an overview of distributed processing, showing how it developed from the earliest days of cluster computing to the present day of cloud computing. It will go over important ideas that have influenced the advancement of distributed processing technology, including virtualization, containerization, and software-defined networking. Then the chapter will concentrate on more recent developments, such as distributed machine learning, serverless computing, and edge computing. It will look at how these developments are altering the computing environment by making it possible for new services and applications and by enhancing the effectiveness and scalability of computing systems.
