During the client and server handshake with the TLS process, the server certificate revocation status can be verified with the OCSP stapling. OCSP Responder takes the request from the server and attaches the OCSP responses to the certificates before returning to the client. The OCSP Responder takes the request from server and caches for multiple requests from the client.
