G.1 Package Management
If you’re on Linux distribution or a BSD flavor, then you already have a package (or port) manager, and you’re all set. If you’re developing on Windows or Mac OS X, however, you’ll want to add one to your system, as it will make your life much easier.
On Mac OS X, your two main choices are MacPorts and Homebrew. I favor MacPorts because it’s been around longer and has a much larger package library, but it’s a little bit more difficult to use than Homebrew, whose goal is to be as simple as possible (sometimes to your detriment).
On Windows, you have a choice between Chocolatey or Cygwin in tandem with the apt-cyg package manager (similar to Debian’s apt-get package manager). Windows 10 also ships with the PackageManagement ...
