Simple Notification Service (SNS) is a web service that enables applications, end users, and devices to send and receive notifications. We already briefly used it in our deployment pipeline to receive email notifications to approve production deployment. We will use SNS to notify us about important events.
The service is logically broken up into four parts: producers, topics, protocols, and subscriptions.
The message producers are the applications and services producing the messages, and those messages are organized around topics. Topics are like access points. As you create your SNS topics, AWS will associate them with an ARN that other services can subscribe to.
