Chapter 10. EJB 2.1 Web Service and Timer Service Support

EJB 2.1 introduces two new ways to use EJBs. First, Stateless Session Beans can now act as Web service implementation endpoints, thereby allowing any client access to enterprise services via language-neutral Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Second, the EJB Timer service allows Entity Beans (all three kinds) to register for and receive timer notification events; timer events provide the basis for implementing workflow-intensive business processes as networks of collaborating Entity Beans.
