Derived Indexing

Abstract

Two major derived indexing systems are Keyword in Context (KWIC) and citation indexing (CI). KWIC involves selection of keywords from the title of the document or title like phrase formulated for the purpose and then preparation of an entry for each keyword. In each entry, keyword is entered in bold letters in the beginning or in the middle of the title/title like phrase, while the remaining part of the title/title like phrase serves as the context. This is followed by the symbol (identification number) of the document concerned. There are several variants of KWIC.
