The best way to configure cross-compilation for CMake is by using the so-called toolchain files. Toolchain files define all the settings and parameters of the build rules specific to the particular target platform, such as a compiler prefix, compilation flags, and the location of the libraries pre-built on the target platform. An application can be rebuilt for different target platforms by using different toolchain files. See the CMake toolchains documentation at https://cmake.org/cmake/help/v3.6/manual/cmake-toolchains.7.html for more details.
