salesforce.com was founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff, a 25-year software industry veteran and Oracle executive who left Oracle in 1999 to pursue a simple idea: delivering enterprise applications via the Web. With that vision, and with a team of three software developers, Benioff began salesforce.com—what Steve Jobs would later refer to as customer relationship management (CRM) “for the masses.”
