20.1 INTRODUCTION
ISA100.11a is a wireless standard developed by the International Society of Automation (ISA). Work on this standard started at around the same time as Wireless Highway Addressable Remote Transmission (WHART). It was endorsed as an ISA standard in September 2009. The standard provides reliable and secure wireless communication in the field of industrial automation for noncritical monitoring and control applications. ISA100.11a can integrate with HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and others through device adapters, network protocol pass through tunneling, by mapping using interface objects, etc.
