Coupled conditions: There is often the question of how many sim-
ple conditions are there in a compound condition. For example,

= (A BOE B) PS (C BOE A) is a compound condition. Does C
con-
tain three or four simple conditions? Both answers are correct depending
on one’s point of view. Indeed, there are three distinct conditions A, B,
and C. However, the answer is four when one is interested in the number
of occurrences of simple conditions in a compound condition. In the ex-
ample expression above, the first occurrence of A is said to be coupled to
its second occurrence.
