Dijkstra, one of the most influential computer scientists in the 20th century, was not a fan of anthropomorphizing computers. At the time of his quote, at the end of the 1970s or early 1980s, computers were not even remotely as capable as today’s computers. Today, we witness the emergence of systems with human (and increasingly superhuman) capabilities.
