18A Statistical Graph–Based Welfare Measure Estimation Provided in the Public Sector Organization

Abstract

Awareness on welfare measures makes the employees more attentive and skillful in their day-to-day responsibilities in the workplace, as they would appreciate the employer who provides better facilities in the form of canteen, rest rooms, recreation, housing, and education for the dependents. This study aimed at measuring the awareness of the 100 (one hundred only) employees of the Cochin Shipyard Ltd., a public sector undertaking, on the statutory and non-statutory measures, as stipulated in the Factories Act of 1948. In the descriptive study using the questionnaire as the tool, it was found that there was no difference in the awareness level on statutory and non-statutory welfare measures among males and females. The employees in the higher-income category were highly aware of the statutory and non-statutory welfare measures. Employees earning higher income are more committed to the organization, so also their awareness level about welfare measures is high, compared to the lower-income category. Quantitative analyses: Percentage, t-test, and ANOVA were calculated to reach the conclusion that aged, and experienced employees were well aware of the welfare measures than their counterparts, less aged, and less experienced.
