IPv6 and Related

We introduced a number of basic Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) concepts in
previous chapters. is chapter focuses on a more formal description of IPv6. e
discussion is based on Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) [RFC2460]. ere
is an extensive body of technical research literature on this topic (as documented
in Appendix B).
5.1 Introduction
IPv6 is a new version of the Internet Protocol, designed as the successor to IP ver-
sion 4 (IPv4) described in [RFC791]. e changes from IPv4 to IPv6 fall primarily
