7.1 Introduction
In Chapter 6 several available mechanisms to support a transition to Internet Pro-
tocol version 6 (IPv6) were discussed. Frankly, this transition has not yet gathered
steam as of press time in spite of the fact that a lot of the “science,” the equipment,
and some requirement (e.g., government mandate for U.S. Department of Defense
[DoD]) has existed for up to a decade. e issue of address availability has tem
