158 n Handbook of IPv4 to IPv6 Transition
IXP is a single physical network infrastructure (often an Ethernet LAN) to which
many ISPs can connect. Any ISP that is connected to the IXP can exchange traffic
with any of the other ISPs connected to the IXP, using a single physical connection
to the IXP, thus overcoming the scalability problem of individual interconnections.
Practically all of the European IXPs support IPv6 for ISP interconnection.
Note that IXPs are not generally involved in the peering agreements between
connected ISPs, but do however have requirements that an ISP must meet to con
-
nect to the IXP.
