6.1 Introduction
Although most technical aspects of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) have been
defined for some time, deployment of IPv6 is occurring gradually. Initially, IPv6
is to be deployed within isolated islands with interconnectivity among the islands
achieved by the existing IPv4 infrastructure; a number of transition mechanisms
have been defined to interconnect such islands.
