Background
How to Treat New Ideas grew out of CCL’s long history of research on creativity, innovation, and helping leaders succeed. Some of CCL’s early work in idea generation and innovation included the Targeted Innovation program, which helped participants define specific problems and focus their innovation efforts on achieving creative yet practical solutions. CCL has also done work in exploring the concept of practical creativity in Making Creativity Practical: Innovation That Gets Results (Gryskiewicz & Taylor, 2003). Practical creativity aims to produce high-quality ideas which organizations can implement with less risk, providing leaders with another tool to further their innovation efforts.
