Handling of loose materials is the principal process activity at outdoor storage
facilities. Filling and reclaiming processes at outdoor storage locations exposed to
wind involve intensive fugitive emissions of dust, resulting in dust plumes spreading
far beyond the storage sites. Use of high performance equipment and a free-falling
mode of material dumping cause intensive dust release; outdoor storage, therefore, is
among the primary atmospheric dust emission sources at industrial sites.
