Starting with the iPod Photo, introduced in mid-2005, all iPods with color screens have been capable of displaying digital photos. You might think that viewing photos has little to do with listening to music (and you might be right), but the fact remains that the iPod is a handy little portable photo viewer.

About Photos and Your iPod

The iPod and iTunes are capable of storing and displaying digital photos in the following formats:

  • JPG, JPEG
  • TIF, TIFF
  • GIF
  • PNG
  • BMP
  • PSD
  • SGI
  • PICT (Mac-only version of iTunes)
  • JPG2000, JP3 (Mac-only version of iTunes)

Naturally, you use the iTunes software to transfer your digital photos to your iPod. iTunes can sync photos stored in Adobe Photoshop Album, Photoshop Elements, iPhoto (on the Mac), ...
