3. PITCH
Pitch is the sounds themselves, also called notes or tones. There are 12 pitches in our musical system. These 12 pitches are repeated through a wide range - low, middle and high. See Pitch Frequency Chart for further insights.
- Pitches can move up, move down, or stay the same, that is, repeat or hold. Moving from one pitch to the next pitch is called a step. The next larger move is called a skip. Any move larger than a skip is called a leap or a jump.
- Pitches are almost always organized into a scale, a sort of family of notes. Scales are the usual birthplace of melody and harmony.
