The 2D API has sophisticated text rendering capabilities, ranging from simple methods for rendering character strings to entire classes for text layout and editing. In this chapter, I'll begin by introducing the concepts and terminology of text rendering. Then I'll talk about how to render text in the 2D API, how to choose and manipulate fonts, and how to determine the dimensions of rendered text. Chapter 7, contains information about the 2D API's more powerful text features.
