LESSONS LEARNED
At the Postal Service action learning was an experiment, and there are lessons to be learned from any experiment:
• Not all the members of all the teams saw their participation in action learning as valuable. They were not given releases from their regular work, which made the action-learning projects burdensome for some. Some team members felt that the time would have been better spent doing their regular jobs better. The lesson is that although providing work release adds to the cost of action learning, it may be important to the success of this kind of developmental initiative.
