When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
LAMP stack
The LAMP stack is the term used to describe an all-in-one web and database server. Typically, the components are:
- Linux: The underlying operating system; in our case, we will be using CentOS 7.
- Apache: The web server element of the stack.
- MariaDB: The database component of the stack; typically, it is MySQL-based. As CentOS 7 ships with MariaDB, we will be using that rather than PHP.
- PHP: The dynamic language used by the web server to generate content.
There is also a common variation of the LAMP stack called LEMP; this replaces Apache with NGINX, which is pronounced engine-x, hence the E rather than N.
