New vSphere 6 virtual machine features
vSphere 6 brings a handful of new features with the introduction of a new virtual machine compatibility level. The new enhancements include:
- Support for 128 vCPUs
- Support for 4 TB of RAM
- Serial and parallel port enhancements
- USB 3.0 xHCI controller
- WDDM 1.1 GDI acceleration
- Hot-add RAM enhancements to vNUMA
Prior to vSphere 6.0, when virtual NUMA was in use, all memory was allocated to region 0 in the event of hot-add. Now, when a vNUMA virtual machine has memory hot-added to it, that memory is allocated equally across all NUMA regions.
