The web has been around for more than 30 years now, experiencing euphoric early expansion, an economic-driven bust, an innovation-driven rebirth, and constant evolution along the way. One thing is certain: the web as a communication and commercial medium is here to stay.
This book is a good place to start learning what makes the web tick. My goal is to give you a solid foundation in writing code and producing images according to best practices. I’ll also provide important context on why we do things the way we do. We’ll get to writing code very soon, but first, let’s take a look at the web design profession.
Maybe you are reading this book as part of a full course on web design and development. Maybe you bought it to expand your current skill set, to open up job possibilities. Whatever your motivation, it will help to be familiar with the many roles in the web design and development field, so you can consider which role is right for you. You don’t have to learn to do it all (unless you want to!).
