EXPOSURE BASICS

Proper exposure technique—satisfactory highlight and shadow detail of the subject or scene—is the technical prerequisite to the process of transforming ideas into photographs. Although digital imaging software offers numerous correction tools, it is preferable to make original exposures as accurately as possible, to ensure the highest possible image quality with the minimum amount of time and effort. The following exposure guidelines can deliver standard exposures under a wide variety of conditions with a minimum of fuss.
