Utilizing Day-by-Hour and FIFO Boards
This chapter augments the material discussed in chapter 3; it assumes you have a method to quantify how long a task should take and focuses on methods to set expectations, monitor them, and document any problems. Monitoring refers to regular observation and recording of activities. Many plants, simply by setting expectations and by monitoring work methods, see productivity improve by 10 percent to 15 percent. Much of this improvement comes from having people at their workstations on time, producing when they should, and working on the correct priorities.
