So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Using Value Stream Mapping in a Low-Volume Environment
Value stream mapping, although it is not a complete flow analysis, is a graphic tool that uses symbols to show the flow of material and information within your business. In a manufacturing environment you choose a key product (a runner) or key part number to map; in complicated processes, you might start with following only a subassembly or component that has significant costs. The map presents a picture of the process at a certain point in time; it is based on the actual situation on the shop floor instead of data retrieved from a database and it includes all manufacturing activities and the information flow of the incoming order.
