Introduction to Casting

  • Casting is a very important manufacturing process used to produce the products as a single unit. It finds extensive applications in manufacturing industries.
  • In casting, metal is first melted in a suitable furnace. The molten metal is poured in a cavity similar to the size of the object being made where it is allowed to solidify. After solidification, the cavity is destroyed to take out the solid object from it. This solid object as well as the process are called casting. Casting can be subjected to subsequent machining as per requirements.
  • The process can be used to make intricate details, produce hollow cavities or any curved surfaces in the parts.
