Abraham Maslow left a legacy for all of us. His pioneering work in the field of humanistic psychology has made an indelible imprint on the way we view ourselves, our lives, and our institutions.

Maslow began his career at Brooklyn College where his unusual combination of confidence in his subject and personal humility made him very popular with his students. Many students recalled that it was his love of psychology and his enthusiasm for the science of psychology that led them to careers in the field.

Maslow left Brooklyn College to become chairman of the Department of Psychology at Brandeis University. He was also president of the American Psychological Association from 1967 to 1968.

Although Maslow conducted research and studies in a myriad of areas, he is most remembered for his hierarchy of needs and the concept of self-actualization as the highest motivating force.
