I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The README file
The README file is one of the oldest traditions in software distribution. Dating back to the mid 1970s, this plain-text file is usually meant to convey the most basic set of instructions and information to users of the program before they install or run the software.
Although there is no standard for what a README file should contain, there are certain things a user would expect to find; some of these include the following:
- The name and home page of the software
- The author of the software (with contact information)
- A short description of the software
- Basic usage instructions, including any command-line switches or arguments
- Instructions for reporting bugs or contributing to the project
- A list of known bugs
- Notes such as platform-specific ...
