Like Feral Concurrency Control, we won't discuss routing slips in details. Both 2PC and sagas need a coordinator to execute the steps or communicate with the participants. However, instead of a coordinator, routing slips could be used to execute the next step, in a similar way to an assembly line. Each node receives a request with a routing slip that says what should be done after processing the request. Routing slips are useful when steps are predefined and no workflow is involved. This pattern could also be used when no feedback is required by the end user. However, many people feel it is an anti-pattern because failure handling is done through the routing slip attachment.
