The machines we built in theatre are assembled, for the most part, from pre-manufactured component parts that are designed for use in general industry. Electric motors, gear reducers, bearings, wheels, shaft couplings, brakes and other parts are all made in huge quantities for markets much larger than theatre will ever provide. This saves us, and all the others who use these components, the time and effort and expertise involved in designing and making those parts ourselves.
